German-Dutch Legal Relations
Germany is the Netherlands' number one export partner and many Dutch companies are active in the German market. These companies frequently encounter the problem that cultural differences can obstruct the free flow of commercial activities. Accordingly, companies call upon the German-Dutch Legal Relations practice group of Van Diepen Van der Kroef for assistance with various aspects of doing business in Germany.
The practice group's clients include Dutch companies who are a subsidiary of a German company or who themselves have a German subsidiary as well as organisations involved in disputes with a German company or organisation. The practice group also serves non-corporate clients. The practice group includes four German lawyers, "Rechtsanwälte", who have a fluent written and spoken command of the Dutch and English language. Our "Rechtsanwälte" are familiar with the legislation, commercial markets and culture of both Germany and the Netherlands.
The practice group's secretariat is also fully bilingual. The practice group's lawyers advise clients on how cultural differences can be bridged and support them in their contacts with German companies and institutions. As three of our "Rechtsanwälte" are enlisted at the Netherlands bar, German companies, lawyers, etc. also seek their advice with respect to doing business in the Netherlands. The lawyers of the German-Dutch Legal Relations practice group:
- are experienced negotiators
- supervise takeovers and mergers between Dutch and German companies
- advise on restructurings and reorganisations within German-Dutch groups
- supervise and independently conduct cross-border negotiations
- draft and assess contracts
- conduct litigation in both Germany and the Netherlands
- advise on legal disputes
- supervise mediation proceedings, or accept appointment as international mediator.
