Civil service law
The lawyers in the Civil Service Law department are specialists in the legal position of civil servants. Civil Service law occupies a special place in the field of employment law and is characterised by its rapid amendment and continuing enlargement. Legal proceedings in this field are radically different from normal employment law and the lawyers in this department regularly advise and conduct proceedings involving not only civil servants but also government and semi-governmental bodies and educational bodies, and thus have a practical knowledge of both sides of the coin. Strategically this is an enormous advantage that enables them to anticipate future developments in proceedings or in the course of negotiations.
The lawyers of the International practice group:
- are experienced negotiators
- advise on legal issues in the widest sense of the term
- are fully conversant with the problems associated with (the buying-off of) supra-legal benefits
- contentious proceedings and appeals
- supervision of mergers, reorganisations en privatisation and re-nationalisation of governmental and semi-governmental agencies
- are noted for their practical approach that nevertheless never fails to recognise the formal nature of civil service law
- often succeed in achieving an amicable settlement and thereby avoid lengthy and expensive proceedings
