Dr. Axel Hagedorn

Dr. Axel Hagedorn (1954) was born and raised in Germany. He completed his Ph.D. with distinction in 1985. Before arriving in The Netherlands in 1994 he was a partner at a well-reputed law firm in Hamburg. In 1996 he completed his studies in Culture, Organization and Management at the Free University of Amsterdam, specializing in systems science and inter-cultural communication.

Axel Hagedorn has practiced since 1997 with the law firm of Van Diepen Van der Kroef Advocaten where he established the firm’s international department, which deals with international corporate law and predominantly and uniquely comprises lawyers with twin specialties or a composite ethnic background, or both. From 2004 through 2009 he was a member of the Executive Committee of Van Diepen Van der Kroef Advocaten and has presided as Chairman of the Board from 2007 until 2009.

Axel Hagedorn is admitted as a lawyer in Germany (Rechtsanwalt) and in The Netherlands (Advocaat). His main field of work lies with international corporate law with a focus on Mergers & Acquisitions. He regularly acts as an international arbitrator/mediator among others for the German-Dutch Chamber of Commerce. He is also a regular contributor of articles to legal journals and other international and inter-cultural media. Axel Hagedorn is furthermore a frequent speaker on a wide variety of legal and non-legal issues.

He represents the 6.000 relatives of the victims of the genocide in Srebrenica (1995) in their civil proceedings against the Dutch State and the UN (for more information go to “Srebrenica case” on this website).
Since 2004 Axel Hagedorn is President of the German-Dutch Lawyers Association (almost 300 members). He is chairman of the special committee Legal & Tax of the Dutch-German chamber of commerce. He followed the New Board Program at Nyenrode Business University.
