Press release May 26, 2011: Mothers of Srebrenica thrilled with arrest Mladic
Our clients, 6.000 relatives of the victims of the genocide in Srebrenica (also known as the ‘Mothers of Srebrenica’), are very happy with the arrest of general Mladic. It has taken a long time, but 16 years after the fact, the main perpetrator of the genocide in Srebrenica has finally been arrested.
An important moment for the Mothers of Srebrenica.
The arrest of Mladic may have major implications for the civil proceedings brought by the Mothers of Srebrenica against the UN and the Dutch State. The proceedings started in the Netherlands in 2007 (for more information about the proceedings see: www.vandiepen.com).
With the arrest of Mladic it is expected that new evidence will become available, which may shed new light on the role of the UN and the Dutch State during and after the fall of the Safe Area Srebrenica.
