Press release March 19, 2010: Mothers of Srebrenica react on ex-general Sheehan
Van Diepen Van der Kroef Advocaten is representing 6,000 relatives of the victims of the genocide in Srebrenica (the “Mothers of Srebrenica”) in the civil proceedings against the State of The Netherlands and the United Nations.
The sexual inclination of the soldiers is surely not the reason for the genocide in Srebrenica. Nevertheless the fact that the Dutch blue helmets neglected to protect the people of Srebrenica. That was their task. The Dutch blue helmets did not fulfil at all their international obligation to prevent this genocide. The mandate clearly included the use of force insofar necessary to protect the civilians.
For the Mothers of Srebrenica it is important that until today they have not received any recognition and/or satisfaction by the State of the Netherlands nor the UN.
The UN and the State of the Netherlands use all legal means to avoid to be held responsible for their failures in Srebrenica, the first genocide on European soil since World War II.
The Mothers will continue their fight for justice.
"They provide solutions before problems arise."
