Press release January 28, 2010: Court hearing regarding Srebrenica case
Today the court hearing at the appeal court in the case of 6,000 relatives of the victims of the genocide in Srebrenica (the “Mothers of Srebrenica”) against the State of The Netherlands and the United Nations has taken place.
We made clear that the judgement in first instance was a political one and not justified on legal grounds. As long as the UN do not guarantee legal remedies an absolute immunity of the UN is in conflict with European community law, the fundamental right of effective legal remedies and access to court. We asked the court to involve the European court in Luxemburg to decide this matter.
"They have a feeling for my business. Speak the language. I don't have to interpret."
